OVER THE HILL GANG CAR CLUB
This club was founded after a run to Lodi, CA in June of
1973. Tom Sterkel, a local Auto Upholsterer and fellow Street
Rodders Craig Lake and John Pickle
from San Diego, actually came up with the name and started the club. Tom started the San
Bernardino Chapter, while Craig and John started the Chapter in San Diego. The name was taken from
an early 1969 TV movie by the same name.
The name was originally meant to fit the cars and the
loose association this club is known for, the name would eventually say as much about its
members, as its members cars.
The first twelve members of the club were:
Tom Sterkel passed away in 1985, he had logged well over 100,000 miles on his
34 Ford Truck. He felt there was a place for a club that could meet the following needs:
The Over the Hill Gang -- A club
with very few rules.
The only current rules are:
- Prospective members must attend a minimum of two club
- Must have a running pre-1973 car at the time of admission
to the club.
- Must go on at least one run with the club, in their qualifying vehicle.
